FUN FREE THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND 9/6 – 9/7 IN SEATTLE & SURROUNDING COUNTIES

Who knows how much longer we have to the chilly temps and bad weather set in. Weather should be perfect this weekend all over Seattle and Northern counties. If you didn’t get a chance to get out last weekend, like myself(due to last-minute back to school shopping), it will be ideal temps all over and sunny. Here is somethings that will be happening:

9/6/2014 *SATURDAY*

PUGET SOUND BIRD FEST : (EDMONDS)Guided bird watching and nature walks, speakers, exhibits (Sept. 6), field trips on land and water, kids’ activities (Sept. 6) and more. No dogs. Various hours Sept. 6-7, see detailed schedule online. Some activities require a fee and/or pre-registration.

PAWSWALK: (REDMOND)5K walk with or without a dog benefits PAWS. Kids’ zone, vendors, food and more. 8 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. walk. event is FREE, but they are accepting donations.

RANIER BEACH: (SEATTLE)Enjoy art, dance, food, family activities and music, including a performance from Fly Moon Royalty.

SEATTLE ARTS MUSEUM PRESENTS FAMILY FESTIVAL ~ SALMON RETURN CELEBRATION:         (OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK – SEATTLE): Celebrate the return of the salmon and learn about Native American cultures. Find out how to care for our planet with earth-friendly art making, fantastic family tours, exciting live performances and more.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK: (TACOMA)Kids can get an up-close look at a variety of big trucks, including emergency, public works, parks department, school district and military vehicles. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., noon to 1 p.m. is no horns. FREE, canned food donations welcomed. Free on-site document shredding.

NEWCASTLE DAYS: (NEWCASTLE) Celebrate the city’s 20th anniversary with a parade, community information, food, kids’ activities, pony rides, petting zoo, car show, entertainment and more.

MUKILTELO LIGHTHOUSE FESTIVAL: MULKILTEO Vendors, food, entertainment, children’s activities, kids’ fishing derby (8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 6) children’s parade (10:30 a.m. Sept. 6), grand parade (10:45 a.m. Sept. 6), fireworks (dusk Sept. 6) and more. 3 to 10 p.m. Sept. 5, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 6, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 7. No on-site parking; shuttles from Kamiak High School and Olympic View Middle School.

EDMONDS CLASSIC CAR SHOW: (EDMONDS) Classic car show and entertainment all day, plus kids’ activities like making and racing a pinewood car.

CAST OFF: FREE PUBLIC SAILING (LAKE UNION -SEATTLE) BE SURE TO GET THERE EARLY, WITH IT BEING SUNNY TOMORROW IT WILL FILL UP FAST, WHEN WE DO THIS EVENT WE ALWAYS TRY TO GET THERE AT 9:00AM!!! Our Cast Off! program allows visitors the chance to sail in classic boats. The boats we use include: Admirable, a Bristol Bay Gillnetter; Amie, a Friendship sloop; Colleen Wagner, an Egret Sharpie; our long-boat Discovery, our New Haven Sharpie Betsy D, or a visiting classic. Before and after your sail take a walk on the docks and discover the boats. Watch the volunteer crews rigging the boats. They’ll be happy to answer any question you might have, and you may even have a chance to help with the rigging! Rides start throughout the day and last about 45 minutes. Sign-ups begin in person at 10 a.m.; space is limited and rides fill quickly. Arrive early to ensure your first choice, especially on sunny days and holidays. One person may sign up five other people who are not present, but no phone reservations are accepted. All ages are welcome and we have life jackets for everyone. We sail rain or shine, but wind conditions may keep us at the dock.

ARTS A GLOW LANTERN FESTIVAL:(BURIEN) Lantern making, lantern procession at dusk, face painting, live music, performers, food trucks, dance party and more! Bring shakers or bells for the procession.
